Welcome to Truly Giuli (ani), where we take a look at The Real Rudy in the hopes of educating conservatives out there who happen to be stricken with Giuliani Admiration Syndrome.
Today, we stroll down Memory Lane by taking a look at a YouTube video of a Giuliani campaign commercial (from 1989), which extols Rudy's family values. It's a bit sad and extremely ironic to watch, considering Rudy's history with regards to relationship commitment. The point seems to not have been lost on Rudy's son, who stated, "I got my values from my mother."
As the ever lovely Kirsten Powers states,
Rudy announced he had cancer on April 17, 2000 and announced he was leaving his wife in a press conference on May 10, 2000, after he had been openly cheating with Judi.
Rod Dreher writes, regarding the 1989 commercial,
You think it's a Saturday Night Live parody or something -- especially if you remember how vulgar it was that Hizzoner was squiring around his girlfriend while still married to Donna Hanover. When he announced that he was filing for divorce, he looked like a real cad -- and his wife Hanover said he was a philanderer.
Well, we're all human - right? We all make mistakes - right? Even Presidents have private lives - right? Yet, like it or not, the President's (or, potential President's) humanity, mistakes, and private life will become public fodder.
Keep this in mind when viewing the video.
