The Law of Non-contradiction, adult confusion, & a 6 year-old child's clarity: why Christianity is exclusive
James Kushiner, at Mere Comments, posts, Sidetracked by Priest Excited by Two Men, in which he states,
Just a little ways down the home page of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, I saw this "Outrageous Quote of the Week":
"The way I understand Jesus is compatible with Islam. And although there are Christians and Muslims who think I must convert from one to another, the more I go down this path, the more excited I am about both Christianity and Islam.
"I agree with both [Islam and Christianity] because I do want to say that Jesus is unique, and for me, Jesus is my spiritual master. Muslims say Mohammed is the most perfect. Well, it depends on who you fall in love with....I was following Jesus, and he led me into Islam, and he didn't drop me off at the door. He's there, too."
-- The Rev. Dr. Ann Holmes Redding, speaking on her dual role as practicing Muslim and Episcopal Priest...
So, Jesus led her into Islam? Christianity, which teaches that Jesus is the son of God, and Islam, which teaches that he isn't, are compatible? Is the Law of Non-contradiction now out of vogue?
Just for kicks, this morning, I asked my homeschooled 6 year-old daughter a few theologically-based questions. Here is the transcript of our conversation:
Who is Jesus?
Jesus is the son of God the Father. What is a Christian?
A Christian is a person who believes in Christ Jesus.Believes what about Christ?
Believes that he died for our sins and rose again on the third day. What is sin?
Sin is when you do something bad and disobey God.What do we have to do about that?
We have to ask for forgiveness.Ask who?
Ask God for forgiveness.Have you learned about other religions besides Christianity?
I've learned about the Romans, they believed in idols; and Chinese, they believe in Buddha. Can someone believe in another god and Jesus at the same time?
No!Why?
Because in the Bible it says a person cannot worship Satan and Jesus at the same time.Well, what if someone says that Jesus led them to worship another god or religion?
Then they're lying.Why?
Because the Bible says you only worship Jesus.
Theological nuances aside, it's really about as simple as that.
Perhaps the Rev. Dr. Ann Holmes Redding should sit in on a few of our classes here at home?
